Are you planning a trip to Seoul, and looking for a great hostel to stay at?
If so, then you’re in luck because Seoul offers a variety of cheap, clean and centrally located hostels in the Itaewon district.
Since I live and teach English in rural suburb of Seoul, I always head into the city for the weekend and stay at a hostel. Over the last 1.5 years, I’ve stayed at almost every popular hostel around Seoul. I’ve had some good experiences (mostly) and a few bad ones. But overall I’ve met some incredible people and created many lifelong memories.
The #1 Area that I recommend staying in is called Itaewon, and it’s one of my favorite areas of Seoul. Especially if you’re new to Seoul, Itaewon is a great area to start because it’s the most foreign friendly district, but also an up-and-coming trendy area for young Koreans to hang out. And most of the Koreans that hang out in Itaewon can speak English, so you won’t feel lost in translation.
The nightlife in Itaewon is fantastic, with many bars, lounges, pubs and night clubs that stay open all night long. The streets are lined with delicious restaurants from cuisines all over of the world, including five-star Korean BBQ restaurants. In my opinion, Itaewon is really the best place to stay in Seoul, because there’s always something fun going on, and it’s centrally located on the metro to go anywhere in Seoul.

1. SP Guesthouse Itaewon
The SP guesthouse is the best place to sleep for budget backpackers and travelers. The price per room is W15,000 per night ($15USD), which is unbeatable anywhere else around Seoul. The staff is very friendly here, and there is always a nice mix of travelers from all over the world. Every time I stay at SP, I make new friends and go out with new faces. The common area is very nice, the rooms are clean and there is always a positive atmosphere.
SP is located behind the famous Hamilton Hotel. They have a cool blog now, and you can visit it on this link!
From Airport: By Subway (Approximately 60 minutes) – catch either the express or the local train from Incheon International Airport/Gimpo Airport and then change at Gongdeok Station to the Brown Line No. 6 going toward Bonghwasan. Itaewon Station is 4 stops from Gongdeok.
From Airport: By Bus (Approximately 70 minutes) – Catch the Hannam-dong deluxe limousine the first floor dock 5A, or 11B and get off at the Hamilton Hotel
From Itaewon Station: walk out exit 1 and walk straight for 2 minutes. When you see “Tiger’s” store on your right side, turn right and walk up (it’s an alley). Then when you come to the pedestrian street, walk stratight up a bunch of stairs. keep walking up and you’ll see it on your right side.

2. Itaewon Inn
Itaewon Inn is like my second home in Korea. I really enjoy staying at this place, because everyone is so friendly and it’s located just a 2 minute walk from Hamilton Hotel (central Itaewon). Itaewon Inn has a cool dynamic because it is a hostel + guesthouse in one building. So, the people here are a mixture of backpackers and long-term people who rent rooms for a few months. The building is 4 floors high. The second floor has all of the dorm rooms (like a typical hostel), and each floor up has several private rooms. You can book family rooms with multiple beds, or single rooms with one bed. All rooms come with A/C, heaters, wifi and comfortable beds. I really recommend staying here, because the cheapest rooms also go for W15,000!
From Itaewon Station, walk out of exit 4 and turn around (to the left).. Then, turn right on street (like 20 meters ahead of you). Walk down that road for 5 minutes (you will see Taco Bell and Dominos on your left side). You will also pass by a bunch of antique stores on your right. Itaewon Inn is a large green building, you can’t miss it!
